
Dr. John Sorenson, MD
Dr. John Sorenson is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and macular disease. He is nationally recognized for treating age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and for surgical management of retinal detachments, macular holes, and macular puckers. He is part of the VRMNY retina team and serves on the surgical staff of New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital. Dr. Sorenson has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and has lectured internationally. He has contributed extensively to American Academy of Ophthalmology teaching activities and received the Academy’s Honor Award in 1996. His research centers primarily on the diagnosis and treatment of age-related macular degeneration, and he serves as a scientific reviewer for major ophthalmology journals. He studied at Stanford University, earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, completed ophthalmology residency at UCSF, and trained in vitreoretinal surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at NYU.
