Dr. Yale L. Fisher is a clinical ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal disease whose career spans patient care, teaching, research, and innovation. He has written several textbooks on vitreoretinal disease and ultrasonography, published more than 50 scientific articles, and produced numerous scientific exhibits and posters. For more than 22 years he directed courses for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has served as a review editor for major ophthalmic journals. His honors include numerous national and international professorships and lectureships as well as the AAO Senior Award. Dr. Fisher has lectured in the United States and abroad on ultrasonography and vitreoretinal surgery, developed new techniques and instruments, and pioneered advances in ocular endoscopy; he was also selected by ophthalmology leaders as one of the 400 best retina doctors in America. His innovations include intraocular electromagnets, a 20-gauge vitreoretinal endoscope, and a free educational ultrasound website with lectures, animations, and an interactive B-scan library. He has 48 years of contact B-scan ultrasonography experience, including 3D ultrasound research. Dr. Fisher studied at Cornell University and Weill Cornell Medical School and trained at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital. He holds voluntary clinical professorships at Bascom Palmer and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell.
